This day tour brings you to Prison Island – officially known as Changuu Island, but also as Quarantine Island. A wonderful experience will give you the chance to discover the enchanting beauty of Changuu Island. Here, you will get a chance to pet and feed the tortoise and snorkel in the most beautiful underwater world.

Day 1

PRISON ISLAND

This tour is a great way to see some history and wildlife, and to see Stone Town from the sea, as many old maritime legends would have done. A quick walk in the island and you will be able to discover...

In the morning, at the arranged time you will be picked by our guide for a driver over the Stone Town harbor, and the length of the drive will be 45 minutes. Once there, you will be able to embark an historical sailing “dhows”, and within 30 minutes of sailing, you will reach Prison Island. A quick walk and you will be able to discover Giant Aldabran Tortoise colony who have been living this island for more than 150 years. There is one in particular that has more than 190 years. Once on the island, you have the opportunity to feed and pet the tortoises; if you have time, you may also like to take a stroll through the forested interior where you will see a wide variety of birds, colorful peacocks, bats, and beautiful butterflies. Keep your eyes peeled too for the shy and elusive Duikers – an unusual tiny antelope species. It is fringed with a beautiful coral reef, ideal for snorkeling, and has a lovely white beach for sunbathing. This tour is a great way to see some history and wildlife, and to see Stone Town from the sea, as many old maritime legends would have done.

Note;- Our clients are advised to wear their swimming costume, together with wearing waterproof sandals on boarding the dhows and to bring sunscreen. The Prison Island day trip can be combined with Jozani Forest, as the forest is on the way to Kizimkazi; we pass through the forest on the way back from dolphin tour.

Payment policy

To reserve this tour, a payment of 70% of the total price must be made at the time of reservation. The balance of 30% can be made on arrival in Tanzania, prior to the departure of your tour.

Your deposit can either be made by means of a Bank Transfer, with the addition of a 45 US Dollar fee, or by Credit Card, which incurs an additional bank charge of 3.5%.

Either the final payment can be made through Credit Card, again with the addition of a 3.5% bank charge, or in cash in US Dollars (US Dollar Bills should not be older than year 2009).

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellation of a holiday must be made in writing and is effective from the date we receive the written notification. Cancellation charges are expressed at a percentage of quoted price as follows:-

If the reason for cancellation is covered under the terms of your insurance policy, you may be able to reclaim the cancellation charges from your insurance company. Notwithstanding the above, if we have issued your domestic airline tickets and you choose at any time to cancel them then the cancelling for Domestic Tickets will be 100%.
